Patrick Van Aanholt, who recently joined Crystal Palace from Sunderland, has remarked that his new club “better than Sunderland”, as quoted by the Daily Star.
Van Aanholt was a key member of the Sunderland team led by current Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce that successfully fought against relegation last season.
The Netherlands international was reunited with Allardyce in a deal worth £14 million and is in line to make his debut for Palace against former club Sunderland on Saturday.
Van Aanholt said, “I think we have a better team here at Palace than we did last year – not to be disrespectful to the Sunderland players. Individually we are better, we have a lot of good players here.”
Van Aanholt is likely to receive a negative reception from the travelling Sunderland fans at Selhurst Park especially as he left at a time during which the club were struggling.
However considering that he enjoys working with Sam Allardyce, one can also say that it may have been the best possible move for him personally.
