According to the Liverpool Echo, Southampton are still looking into signing Liverpool exile Mahamadou Sakho. Sakho has been cast away to the reserve team for much of this season after behavioral issues stemming for a lack of respect for manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Echo reckons that the Saints will move to sign Sakho immediately due to the injury sustained to Virgil van Dijk last weekend against Leicester City. The Dutch international is said to be out for 10 weeks, and it will be massive blow to the Saints to lose him for the EFL Cup Final.
The Frenchman Sakho could fill in capably, and it would relieve a lot of worries about depth for Southampton. The only issue is if they can meet Liverpool’s valuation. With the Saints looking for a striker as well, money may prove to be tight.
Expect to see this deal happen at the very end. All sides really need it to get done, and it’s coming down to the wire now.
