Recent reports from Express have suggested that Gerard Pique is eyeing a move to London after apparently feeling disrespected by fans in Spain, with Chelsea being a possible destination. Pique, 29 has been with Barca since the summer of 2008, when he was purchased from Premier League giants Manchester United for a mere £5 million.
He spent his youth career at Barcelona before moving to United where he began his senior career. He rejoined Barca after four seasons with the Red Devils.
After eight and a half seasons with Barca, Pique has played 376 games, playing mainly as a central defender and he has scored 35 goals. He has had a hugely successful career, winning 26 trophies for club and country as per the Daily Express.
Pique is reportedly having a difficult time dealing with football fans in Spain after he made off-field comments in support of the Blaugrana. Though fans of Barca are in support of Pique, the support of other clubs and notably Real Madrid’s are said to jeer him and even his wife Shakira is affected.
As a result, Pique has told reporters that he wishes to retire from international football after 2018 as he is “growing tired” of how Spanish fans are treating him. Although this rumour is circulating in the English media, as of this moment, it seems highly unlikely that Pique will end up moving away from Barcelona.
