Chelsea extended their wonderful winning run to 13 matches with a 4-2 victory over Stoke City during the weekend and the Blues managed to strengthen their grip at the top of the Premier League table with the positive result.
Now Chelsea can match the Premier League record of most consecutive wins if they can claim another victory but doing so will surely not be easy as the Blues come up against a dangerous Tottenham Hotspur side at White Hart Lane, in what should prove to be a tough encounter for Antonio Conte’s men.
Here is the strongest possible Chelsea lineup for the clash against Tottenham Hotspur –
Goalkeeper
Thibaut Courtois was beaten twice against Stoke but it has to be said that the Belgian was not at fault for the concession of either of the goals.
Nonetheless, Courtois would have been disappointed after failing to add to his fine clean sheet record this season and the young goalkeeper will now surely be looking to put in a strong display against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
Defence
One of the main foundations of Chelsea’s success this season has been their strong backline and it was certainly a surprise to see the Blues conceding twice against Stoke City last time out.
Nonetheless, the performance was a minor blip more than anything and the solid trio of Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz will now be looking forward to the challenge of keeping the potent Tottenham Hotspur attacking lineup at bay in midweek.
Midfield
Cesc Fabregas seems to have moved ahead of Nemanja Matic in the pecking order for the midfield positions at Chelsea and the Spaniard grabbed two assists against Stoke, taking his tally to 100 in the Premier League.
That said, Matic provides more of a defensive solidity to the Chelsea side and up against a strong Tottenham attack, Antonio Conte might just look to use the Serbian instead of Fabregas.
N’Golo Kante simply cannot be dropped at the moment while the wing back duo of Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso are expected to continue in the starting lineup once again.
Attack
Willian scored a fine brace against Stoke City but with Pedro available once again, the Brazilian could well be dropped against Tottenham despite his heroics last time out.
Eden Hazard and Diego Costa are the two indispensible members of the Chelsea attack and the duo will be key if the Blues are to claim a victory over their rivals on Wednesday night.
