Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli has denied claims his club is interested in bringing out-of-favor Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in January.
The former Chile manager, who took charge of Sevilla last summer, has admitted he likes Fabregas as a player, but has played down speculation that he’s about to make a move for him.
“I know he’s an important player, but I’m not thinking about him,” Sampaoli said at a news conference in Spain.
“He’s very intelligent and it’s clear he’s a player any coach would love to have. But it hasn’t crossed my mind that he could be here.
“We’re linked with players day in, day out. We value the squad that we have here highly and I’m not thinking about any more than that.”
Fabregas has struggled to establish himself in Antonio Conte’s starting eleven and has been a peripheral figure at Stamford Bridge since the Italian manager’s arrival in July.
The 29-year-old has only started 3 games in all competitions for Chelsea this season and is reportedly unhappy with his insignificant role at the club.
His struggles have prompted talk about a move away from Stamford Bridge in January, but it seems like the current Europa League champions aren’t pushing for his signature at this moment in time.
Fabregas has also been linked with potential moves to AC Milan and West Ham United and it appears as though his departure is only a matter of time.
