Chelsea are determined to sign Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Thiago Silva and are holding informal talks with the player’s representatives, according to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.
The report claims Thiago Silva is open to a switch to Chelsea, but the French champions want to renew his contract until 2020.
The 32-year-old Brazilian international, who joined the French capital side from AC Milan 4 years ago, has made over 100 league appearances for PSG so far, but has also had his fair share of injury problems in the past couple of years.
His current contract with the French giants is due to expire next summer, but PSG have the option to extend it for a further year.
Chelsea already signed one of PSG’s key defenders in David Luiz, so it’ll be interesting to see whether the French club would agree to let Silva join Luiz at Stamford Bridge.
Thiago Silva is one of the best defenders in the world when fit, but his persisting injury problems could lead to his sale before the expiry of his contract.
If he could stay fit, he’d improve any team in the world and maybe that’s why Antonio Conte is reportedly keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge as soon as possible.
