Borussia Monchengladbach are keen to sign Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen permanently, according to their sporting director Max Eberl.
20-year-old Christensen, who joined the Bundesliga side on a two-year loan deal in 2015, has been a huge success at Borussia-Park and Eberl has admitted they’re hoping to use their “very good relationship” with Chelsea to sign the defender on a permanent basis.
“We’ve positioned ourselves. We need to see when and how we can turn it into reality,” Eberl told German news website Express.
“We have a very good relationship with Chelsea.”
The young Danish centre-back is widely regarded as one of the brightest defensive prospects in world football right now, so Chelsea would surely be reluctant to let him go permanently.
However, Borussia Monchengladbach have experience in dealing with such situations as they already convinced Chelsea to sell Eden Hazard’s brother, Thorgan, last year after the 23-year-old attacker had spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Borussia-Park.
Chelsea are believed to be keen to keep Christensen in order to freshen up their ageing defense, but it seems like the German side is determined to sign the promising defender.
Monchengladbach reportedly failed with a €15m bid to sign Christensen last summer and they’re likely to try again during the January transfer window.
