The agent of PSG star Thiago Silva, Paulo Tonietto, has admitted his client could join Chelsea in the future.
Speaking to Sport Witness, Tonietto refused to deny the reports linking Silva with a move to Stamford Bridge and suggested the commanding centre-back could leave on a free transfer next summer if the French champions fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
“Chelsea are a big club. And the English league is the best in the world,” Tonietto said.
“We’re not negotiating a new contract, let’s see what happens before December. Thiago’s deal ends on June 30th 2017 if PSG don’t qualify for the Champions League. Everything is possible in football.”
The Brazilian international defender joined PSG in 2012 and has since made over 100 league appearances for the French club.
PSG didn’t start their league campaign very well and are currently 4 points behind leaders Nice and three behind Monaco.
The French club would be reluctant to sell another key player to Chelsea after they sanctioned David Luiz’s return to Stamford Bridge at the end of August, but they may not have a say if the former AC Milan defender refuses to sign a contract extension.
Even though Silva is 32 years old, he’s still one of the best defenders in the world when fit and would be a quality addition to the Chelsea squad, especially on a free transfer.
