Huge boost as 24-year-old commits to Chelsea

Thibault Courtois

Chelsea goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois has committed his future to the club despite reported interest from Real Madrid, according to Sky Sports.

Courtois has stated that the rumors linking him with the Madrid club has just been ‘paper talk’. The Belgian keeper remains one of the top keepers in the world and despite the link to Madrid being ‘paper talk’, there is little surprise with the link.

Incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Courtois have supposedly already had discussions, which suggest that two have conversed about the future of the 24-year-old.

Courtois will be heading to France to participate in the Euro 2016 with Belgium and interestingly enough his country is in the same group as Conte’s Italy squad.

Although Courtois has stated that he will be remaining at Chelsea, the transfer window has just opened and if the keeper impresses at Euro 2016, a tempting offer with the could-be Champions League winners may sway the Belgian.

If Courtois does indeed move on from the London club, they do have a serviceable backup in Asmir Begovic, who kept just one less clean sheet in the Premier League than his counterpart.

Chelsea need to rebound after a dismal season last year and with the confirmation that their top keeper will be back, it should put the supporters at ease.
