Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has declared that he believes that Jose Mourinho is still one of the best managers in the world of football and will surely take the Blues back to the top. Cole, currently with Aston Villa, had played under Mourinho for three seasons, all of which were very successful.

Speaking to talksport, Cole said, “It’s a tough time for Chelsea and it’s hard to put your finger on why they haven’t started as well as last year. But they will be there or thereabouts.”

One of the moves by the Blues manager that have sparked up a lot of discussions is the exclusion of John Terry for four of the club’s last five games. This has raised a lot of questions and Cole was asked to speak on this matter as well. He replied, “He’s going to have a massive influence and will still be the leader in that dressing room. He’ll come back and he was the best defender in the country last season.”

He also added, “With John at this stage of his career, he’s been a credit with how he’s conducted himself having been left out”. He (Terry) wants Chelsea to win before he wants John Terry to play well. That’s the man’s character. He’ll be chomping at the bit and will be training hard. Everyone’s made a lot of him being left out but John’s 34, nearly 35. He could realistically play as long as Giggsy but he might need to drop in and drop out”.

Even though the London club have been able to secure only eight points from seven league games, Cole insists that Mourinho has still got some tricks up his sleeve and will pull them back to the top of the league.

“Without a doubt he’s the man, he’s one of the best, if not the best gaffers in world football,” Cole was heard saying. Time will tell whether or not Cole’s faith in his former boss will pay off.
