Tottenham Hotspurs are currently sitting pretty at the top of the EPL. It’s unlikely that they will be up there at the end of the season, but if they can make a couple of signings- that will not be duds– by the end of the summer, they could end up finishing in the top four. One trend Spurs are looking to continue is signing young players who are untested in the Premier League, as 19 year old French sensation Adrien Rabiot is rumored to be on his way out of PSG.
His destination for the majority of the summer was rumored to be either Arsenal or Chelsea. But now, Chelsea is less interested, and according to the decently reliable French Newspaper L’Equipe, Rabiot could be on his way to Tottenham Hotspurs. The Express reports Rabiot’s price has dropped from 24 million pounds to around 9 million pounds, and this could end up being a bargain deal. Because Chelsea are not that interested and Arsenal don’t need him as much as Spurs, the strength of this rumor is a 5 out of 10.
The Frenchman made 12 Ligue 1 starts for PSG last season and in that time has been able to attract high profile suitors. Debuting at just 17 years of age, he has been touted for big things and that may have gone to his head. He missed a plane, didn’t show up to training, and skipped a group training session all this week. So, it is almost definite he will be leaving PSG. Rabiot did all of this because he wasn’t satisfied with being on the bench of a big team. That could definitely happen if he moves to the red or blue side of London. At Spurs, he has the potential to play more, so the chance of this happening is a 7 out of 10.
But if Rabiot plays, will he really help Spurs, or will he just be another talented player who flops? He is incredibly talented, but the way he is going about trying to force a move away from Paris shows that he could have an attitude problem. His talent means he will strengthen Spurs at least somewhat, by adding depth to the squad. However, his attitude could be a problem for Spurs, especially if he doesn’t play. Which could happen if some of the duds from last season- Lamela, etc- start performing outstandingly well. If Rabiot moves, it will strengthen the team by a 6 out of 10.
