The America vs Xolos Tijuana Liga MX match will take place this Tuesday, October 1, 2013 (6:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Azteca. This match was originally scheduled to be played in late July as part of Week 2, but it was postponed until now due to the Gold Cup. Club America will clinch a spot in the playoffs with a win over Tijuana; Xolos must win in order to stay alive in the playoff race, a loss surely eliminates all hope of attending the liguilla.

Update: America defeated Xolos 2-0. Almiron’s Xolos continues to disappoint.

Club America is making a strong case to be considered as a candidate to, once again, become the Liga MX champions, and be just the second team in Liga MX history to win two “short” tournaments in a row. America has won 8 out of 10 matches, and currently sits in first place with 25 points. They have been fantastic throughout the tournament, their only loss happened in an away game at Santos.

America has won all 4 of its home games, and nothing indicates that they will lose that undefeated home streak. On the other hand, we have a Xolos squad that has been awful in away matches, earning just 1 point out of 5 away games. Coach Almiron has made a mess of a once formidable Xolos, and has yet to decipher how to earn points in away games. This run of pathetic away results would have never happened in the Turco Mohamed era in Tijuana.

Both teams will have to bring in some of their alternate players for Tuesday’s match. Club America will be missing Raul Jimenez, Layun (with Mexican National Team), and Christiam Bermudez (injured). Coach Herrera has stated that this will be the lineup he will use: Moisés Muñoz, Paul Aguilar, Erick Pimentel, Aquivaldo Mosquera, “Maza” Rodríguez, Adrián Aldrete, Jesús Molina, Osvaldo Martínez,  Andrés Andrade, Narciso Mina & Luis Gabriel Rey.

Xolos will be missing Fernando Arce (with Mexican National Team), Javier Gandolfi, Benedetto (injuries), and Javier Guemez (suspended). Although Xolos will have a difficult time at the Estadio Azteca, both due to the strong rival and the missing players, Tijuana has no other choice than to win if it aspires to participate in the playoffs this season.

Tijuana currently sits 6 points behind 8th placed Queretaro, with just six matches remaining, a win over America is imperative in order to keep up with the top of the table.

America vs Xolos Tijuana Prediction

Club America has been excellent all season long, and has won all of its matches at home. Tijuana has looked mediocre at home, and awful in away matches, including Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Puebla. I just don’t see any scenario in which Club America does not defeat Tijuana. Look for America to continue its winning ways, while Xolos slowly fades into mediocrity.  The America vs Xolos Tijuana match will end in a 2-0 win for the Azulcremas.

America vs Xolos Tijuana TV Schedule

The America vs Xolos Tijuana match will be televised this Tuesday, October 1, 2013 on Unimas at 6:00 PM Pacific.

Extra Note for Xolos fans: Turco Mohamed has resigned his position as head coach of Huracan. We can only hope, pray, that somehow Mohamed will return to Xolos to replace the ineffective Almiron.
