Chivas will face Necaxa tonight without their starting striker, after the club confirmed that Angel Sepulveda has an injury, and Brian Gutierrez is also missing from the squad.
The news arrived inside the club’s official 22-man squad announcement for the Jornada 13 match at Estadio Akron, with kickoff at 6:07 p.m. CT. Sepulveda presented muscular discomfort and, after the corresponding exams, the club confirmed that he has an injury. The club gave no severity and no return date.
The timing connects directly to Saturday. Sepulveda started against Tigres UANL and was replaced by Ricardo Marin at halftime, and tonight Marin is the obvious candidate to lead the line. The striker had scored the late equalizer in the Clasico Tapatio a week earlier, and he leaves a hole in an attack that has produced one win in its last five matches.
Brian Gutierrez Held Out as Chivas de Guadalajara Absences Grow
Gutierrez’s absence is a different category, and the distinction matters. The midfielder reported muscular discomfort, and the club opted to give him rest and differentiated work aimed at a prompt recovery. There is no confirmed injury diagnosis for Gutierrez, and nothing in the club’s announcement suggests a disciplinary reason for leaving him out.
The rest of the absence list is unchanged. Jose Castillo, Luis Romo and Omar Govea remain in the final phase of their respective rehabilitation processes, according to the club, so none of them returns tonight. Miguel Tapias is also not in the 22, and the club gave no status for him.
Miguel Gomez Cleared and Kevin Castaneda Back for Chivas de Guadalajara
There were two returns in the announcement. Miguel Gomez received his medical clearance and is in the squad, adding a defensive option on a night when the back line is still missing Castillo.
Kevin Castaneda is also available again. The midfielder served his one match suspension against Tigres UANL and gives Gabriel Milito another option in the middle, where Gutierrez’s absence now opens a place.
Jordan Carrillo is in the 22 as well, three days after his first Chivas goal rescued a point against Tigres UANL. With Sepulveda out, his chances of minutes off the bench rise again.
