CONCACAF confirmed on Tuesday that Mexico will face Jamaica in the quarterfinals of the 2026/2027 Concacaf Nations League, setting up a two-legged tie in the November international window. The pairing was finalized after Jamaica secured second place in League A Group B with a 1-1 draw at Honduras on October 5.
The quarterfinals will be Rafael Marquez’s first competitive fixtures as Mexico head coach. Mexico skipped the group stage entirely as the top pre-seeded team, while Jamaica advanced as one of the two best group runners-up.
How the pairing was set
There was no separate quarterfinal draw. Under the competition regulations, the four highest-ranked teams in the July 20, 2026 Concacaf ranking, Mexico, the United States, Canada and Panama, received byes to the quarterfinals and were paired mechanically against the group winners and runners-up. Jamaica finished second in Group B with seven points, behind Guatemala on goal difference, and drew Mexico as the next runner-up against the top seed.
The full quarterfinal lineup, confirmed by CONCACAF on October 6, is Panama vs Curacao, Canada vs Guatemala, United States vs Haiti and Mexico vs Jamaica.
Two legs, with the decider in Monterrey
The tie will be decided over two legs during the November 9 to 17 window. Mexico, as the higher seed, will host the second leg on Tuesday, November 17 at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, the FMF confirmed in September. It will be the first senior men’s national team match ever played at the stadium, and Mexico’s first match in Nuevo Leon in eight years. The first leg will be played in Jamaica, with the exact date and venue still to be announced.
If the teams finish level on aggregate, away goals count double. If the tie is still level, the second leg goes to 30 minutes of extra time, followed by a penalty shootout if needed.
What is at stake
The winners advance to the Nations League Finals at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles from March 25 to 28, 2027, and qualify directly for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup. The losers advance to the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup Prelims.
Mexico has dominated the recent history between the sides, going unbeaten in the last five meetings: a 1-0 win at Copa America 2024 in Houston, a 3-0 Gold Cup semifinal win in Las Vegas in July 2023, a 2-2 draw at Estadio Azteca in March 2023, a 1-1 draw in Kingston in June 2022 and a 2-1 World Cup qualifying win in Kingston in January 2022.
What comes next
CONCACAF is expected to confirm the first-leg date and kickoff times in the coming days. The FMF has not yet announced ticket details or a kickoff time for the November 17 return leg in Monterrey, and no broadcaster has been confirmed for the tie in the United States.
