Cruz Azul’s Willer Ditta and Antonio Mohamed Cleared: No Sanction After Toluca Incident

Willer Ditta cleared, no sanction after Toluca incident.

Cruz Azul defender Willer Ditta and Toluca coach Antonio Mohamed will face no sanction over the flashpoints from Saturday’s 3-3 draw between Cruz Azul and Toluca at the Estadio Banorte. The Comisión Disciplinaria’s published resolutions for Jornada 10 contain no item for either man, closing the disciplinary watch that began when Ditta shoved assistant referee Jonathan Maximiliano Gómez.

What happened

The incident came late in the September 26 match. After Cruz Azul had a Luka Romero goal disallowed for offside, Ditta confronted Gómez and shoved him, an exchange caught on video. Referee Katia Itzel García showed no card, and the Colombian defender finished the match. Ditta had already been booked in the 51st minute during the VAR review that led to Toluca’s penalty, converted by Helinho.

After the final whistle, Mohamed criticized the officiating crew directly. “Ustedes vieron muy claro la expulsión de Piovi, vieron el contacto de Ditta con el juez de línea,” he said, arguing the match would have gone differently with a referee who understands the game and adding that García is given opportunities and does not learn.

Context

The expectation of punishment was genuine. Toluca’s camp demanded an exemplary sanction for Ditta, who faced the prospect of missing Jornada 11 through suspension. Mohamed risked a fine or a touchline ban for his public criticism of the referee.

Neither outcome materialized because the incident never entered the official record. Neither García nor any member of the officiating crew included Ditta’s shove in the match report. The Comisión Disciplinaria does not review or sanction incidents the referees failed to report, so no disciplinary file could be opened against the defender.

No separate FMF statement was issued. The clearance is established by the absence of both names from the published Jornada 10 resolutions, which were made public on September 29.

Why it matters for Cruz Azul

The outcome could hardly be better for La Máquina. Ditta is a starting center back, and keeping him available avoids a forced defensive reshuffle for the Clásico Capitalino against Pumas UNAM, one of the biggest fixtures on the Jornada 11 slate. With that game also serving as a rematch of the Clausura 2026 final, having the first-choice back line intact gives Cruz Azul continuity at the exact moment a suspension would have hurt most.

What comes next

Cruz Azul keeps its starting center back for the Clásico Capitalino. La Máquina visits Pumas UNAM on Sunday, October 11 at 8:00 PM CT at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario in Jornada 11, a rematch of the Clausura 2026 final that Cruz Azul won. Mohamed will be on the Toluca bench on Friday, October 9, when the league leaders visit Tigres UANL at 10:00 PM CT.
