Gerardo Torrado Says Vucetich Appointment Drove His Tigres UANL Exit

Gerardo Torrado has broken his silence on his departure from Tigres UANL, saying irreconcilable differences over the club’s sporting project, starting with the choice of Víctor Manuel Vucetich as head coach, forced him out. The former sporting director made the revelation in an interview with David Faitelson on “Faitelson sin censura,” published September 25.

Torrado told Faitelson he disagreed with the board’s decision to hand Vucetich the first team after Guido Pizarro’s departure as head coach. “I am leaving Tigres over irreconcilable differences. I had a different vision for the project, starting with the choice of coach, and they decided to appoint Víctor Manuel Vucetich,” he said (translated from Spanish).

He added that he believed the club had run a good process to select Pizarro’s successor and that he simply did not agree with the final decision.

Torrado left the sporting director role in August, before Vucetich was announced as sporting vice president and interim head coach, concentrating the dugout and the sporting leadership in one person. Despite the fracture, Torrado said he was grateful for his time at one of Mexico’s biggest clubs and praised the Tigres UANL supporters.

Torrado had overseen the club’s sporting department since 2024, and the August restructuring ended his tenure while installing Vucetich in the dual role, a decision Torrado says he never supported.

The timing sharpens the pressure on an already difficult stretch. Tigres UANL sit 16th in the Apertura 2026 table with 7 points from nine matches, and Vucetich has one win in his first five league games in charge. Club president Carlos Emilio González publicly admitted unhappiness with the team’s performances this week while closing ranks around the coaching staff.

Tigres UANL host Puebla tonight at Estadio Universitario in Jornada 10, a match that now carries extra scrutiny with Torrado’s account in the open. Vucetich continues as interim coach.
