The first week of the new season is here, and Club America will get the chance to host an always decent Atletico San Luis. Club America will also be trying out their brand new star coach, Santiago Solari.
Miguel Herrera was released after Club America crashed out of the CONCACAF Champions League semi-final vs LAFC. Herrera made things worse by fighting with LAFC staff and getting red-carded during half-time of that match.
Herrera’s Club America also crashed out of the Liga MX playoffs in the quarter-finals vs Chivas, another result that surely lead to the decision to release Herrera. Overall, Herrera did a fine job during this stint leading Club America, but it was clear his time was over.
Solari had a fantastic career as a player, and the prestige of having already coached Real Madrid, albeit for a short time. Nonetheless, Solari is largely unexperienced as a head coach, and I believe he will not have an easy time in the Liga MX.
I expect, however, that Solari will indeed win his first match ahead of San Luis by a score of 2-1. It will be a good start, and America fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for the team.
