The Club America coach, Piojo Herrera, reported to MedioTiempo.com that he will be missing nine key players, and will be relying on U-20 squad members instead. Thus, America fans who had expected to see their favorite fans in the pitch will be disappointed, as they will see unfamiliar faces instead.
However, given that America had a long season (they did win the Liga MX after all), it’s understandable that Herrera would want to give his players a bit of a longer break. On the other hand, Chivas had a long break due to its absence from the Liga MX playoffs.
Benjamin Galindo brought his entire team to Las Vegas, hoping to use this Chivas vs America friendly as a good practice match for the upcoming Apertura 2013. Only Edgar Solis and Aldo de Nigris will be missing, as both are still recuperating from injury.
Chivas vs America Friendly Prediction
Chivas will likely be playing with its key players for at least part of the match, while America didn’t even bring their stars to Las Vegas– Chivas should win this Super Clasico. Chivas is coming off winning the Copa Jalisco, a friendly tournament that invites Guadalajara based teams. Having a successful pre-season so far, and a huge advantage in talent (they are basically playing against America’s U-20 side), Chivas should win.
The Chivas vs America Las Vegas friendly will end in a 3-1 victory for Chivas. The Guadalajara based team will hope to build some momentum this preseason on its way towards the start of the upcoming Liga MX tournament.
Club America will continue its USA friendly tour with a match against Xolos in San Diego on July 6, and a game against Chicago Fire on July 10. Chivas will play Pumas and DC United as it continues its USA tour.
