Liverpool have arguably been the most successful English club in the transfer market this summer, as they have brought in the likes of Fabinho, Naby Keita, Alisson and Xherdan Shaqiri, in addition to acquiring the services of Virgil Van Dijk during the January transfer window to beef up their defence.
Liverpool are expected to be Premier League title contenders this season
With the Reds now having potentially solved their goalkeeping problems and strengthened their attack, which already contains the deadly trio of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, they are expected to contest for the Premier League title during the upcoming season.
It, however, appears that Red’s manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on securing one more transfer before the window slams shut on Thursday night.
Klopp has been monitoring the progress of Pulisic for a while
The German tactician has been tracking USMNT star Christian Pulisic for some time now and he is reportedly keen on signing the 19-year-old, according to Football Finance Expert Kieran Maguire.
Maguire said to Sky Sports (via Daily Star): “Liverpool are almost there in terms of their Premier League chances and Pulisic could make that difference.”
“Klopp may try to buy him and loan him back to Borussia Dortmund to get some more experience.”
“The asking price is around £45-50m and in today’s market that is not excessive.”
“Liverpool still have money to spend – they earned an awful lot from the Champions League as well as well as the [Phillipe] Coutinho money.”
“The owners are very keen for Liverpool to push on.”
Pulisic is certainly a quality talent who is destined for greatness, if he continues to develop at the rate at which he is currently doing so. Despite still being in the infancy of his career, he has already made 122 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund, scoring 26 goals and supplying 33 assists (stats as per Transfermarkt).
He also boasts 9 goals from 21 appearances for the US national team, since making his international bow in 2016 at the age of just 17.
With the talent that Liverpool boast now, it would be hard to see the youngster walking straight into the club’s first-team. However, it would be wise for the Reds to purchase now, to avoid buying him at an astronomical fee in the future (his value is likely to increase over the coming years as he gets better).
Liverpool could make a deal with Dortmund which was similar to the deal which they reached last summer for Keita. They agreed a deal for the player with RB Leipzig last summer, but he officially joined the club this summer and spent last term with the Bundesliga outfit.
