This Wednesday, August 7, 2018 (7:00 PM Pacific) Alebrijes de Oaxaca will host Chivas de Guadalajara at the Estadio Instituto Tecnologico de Oaxaca for a game in the third round of matches of the 2018 Apertura edition of the Copa MX. The game is set to be a huge mismatch as Chivas are the clear favorites against a very average Oaxaca side.
Alebrijes de Oaxaca fell 2-0 against Monarcas Morelia in Week 1 of the Copa MX and only have one win in three Ascenso MX games. Ricardo Rayas’ team is coming off a 2-1 loss to Cimarrones de Sonora and should struggle even with the home-field advantage.
Some of the more intriguing players that Ricardo Rayas may use in this match include some former Liga MX players like Sergio Napoles and Taufic Guarch. Some of the consistent Ascenso MX starters like Luis Venegas, Jeronimo Amione and Luciano Nequecaur are unlikely to get minutes in this clash.
Chivas de Guadalajara only has a point from three league games and has more chances of succeeding in the Copa MX than the Liga MX. Los Rojiblancos are coming off a 2-2 draw with Toluca in league play and won their first game in the Copa MX against Monarcas Morelia by a score of 3-2.
Walter Gael Sandoval scored two goals in that game and that earned him a start in the Liga MX against Toluca. Sandoval is unlikely to start in this game, but players like Jose Godinez, Angel Sepulveda, Miguel Ponce and Mario De Luna could get a start in this encounter.
Prediction
Chivas has a solid squad to compete in a competition like this and to get a favorable result against a team like Alebrijes de Oaxaca. The Ascenso MX side will have the home-field advantage, but FutnSoccer predicts a 3-1 win for Chivas de Guadalajara in Oaxaca.
