This Saturday, March 31, 2018 (8:00 PM Pacific) Club America will host Cruz Azul at the Estadio Azteca for a game in the 13th round of matches in the Liga MX Clausura 2018. Both teams could use the win but there is that added incentive to the game because of the rivalry between the two Mexico City sides.

Club America has been one of the better teams in this Clausura 2018, currently in fourth place with 21 points. Las Aguilas are just five points off the current league leaders Santos Laguna but are coming off a 2-1 loss to Toluca. Manager Miguel Herrera was suspended in that game as well as defender Bruno Valdez and both will not be present in this encounter. Valdez will be a significant blow to Club America’s backline as William Da Silva or a more inexperienced player will need to step into a fullback position to allow Carlos Vargas to replace Valdez in the centre-back slot. Club America still arguably has a much better team than Cruz Azul and should be able to pick up the three points from the encounter.

Cruz Azul has been one of the worst teams in the Liga MX Clausura 2018, currently in 15th place with just 12 points. Chances of making the playoffs for La Maquina seem very slim at this stage of the season and it is unclear if manager Pedro Caixinha will finish the season. Los Cementeros do have some very talented players but have been able to translate that into results. However, Cruz Azul is undefeated in its last two games, recently coming off a 1-1 draw against Mexico City rivals Pumas UNAM. Pedro Caixinha will be missing two key players in Walter Montoya and Felipe Mora due to injuries and has already announced that Carlos “Gullit” Pena and Martin Cauteruccio will play in their place. Cruz Azul will have a very tough task away from home, missing some key players and a win seems highly unlikely in this Clasico Joven for La Maquina.

Club America vs Cruz Azul Prediction

Given all the factors in place, Club America are the clear favorites to get the three points from the game. FutnSoccer predicts a 3-1 win for Los Azulcremas in a match that should not lack excitement due to the rivalry between the two teams.
