Leeds United sacked Thomas Christiansen a little over a week ago and wasted no time replacing him with Paul Heckingbottom.
The Elland Road outfit activated the release clause in his new contract with Barnsley, but they might have landed a different manager in Real Madrid legend Victory Sanchez.
The erstwhile Real Betis boss was contacted by 2 English clubs last summer after he was relieved of his duties at the La Liga club, and another opportunity to work in England arose as Leeds got in touch with him after parting ways with Christiansen.
Sanchez revealed to Spanish sports daily AS: “Last summer there were opportunities from two English clubs, one in the Premier League and the other in the Championship.
“Recently two clubs contacted me, one of them was Leeds, who finally decided on another option. I have no choice but to keep waiting.”
Sanchez won the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey during a successful playing career with Real Madrid and Deportivo La Coruña.
He has already managed the latter and Greek club Olympiacos, but is currently without a job since last summer.
Leeds will hope Heckingbottom can finally help them to the topflight after many managers failed to.
Should he fail to show positive signs and deliver the needed results, the club won’t hesitate to part ways with him.
Should Sanchez remain available by then, just maybe Leeds will return for his services despite his lack of experience as far as managing in England goes.
