As reported by the Daily Express, Liverpool defender Joel Matip is not satisfied with his performances in the red shirt this campaign.
Although he has been struggling with injuries, the 26-year-old centre-back has had a turbulent year overall, with various ups and downs.
The former Schalke man has significantly dropped in form over the course of the season despite having an encouraging start. His weak displays have hugely influenced Jurgen Klopp’s decision to bring Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton for a world-record fee.
Nonetheless, Matip is looking forward to improving his game alongside the Dutch defender, and help the team to secure the Champions League promotion.
He said, “It’s OK, but I would not say I’m satisfied. It was a good beginning, and I hope a lot more good games will follow.”
Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan, are also competing for their place in the starting eleven, although both of them failed to impress Klopp so far.
The Reds need Matip to regain his Schalke form, as they are battling on two fronts, and Vin Dijk lacks a reliable partner.
