Everton youngster Ademola Lookman has spoken out about why he decided to join German club RB Leipzig last month.
Though it was no surprise that Lookman was sent out on loan, he was widely expected to join Championship high-flyers Derby County and it certainly did come as a surprise to many when he opted to join Bundesliga outfit Leipzig.
While Everton are in a disappointing run of form and suffered a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal last weekend, Lookman started life in Germany on a brilliant note as he scored on debut against Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend.
“I wanted a new challenge, a new league,” Lookman told the Bundesliga’s official website.
“The Bundesliga has a great reputation in England. Top stadiums with good, physically strong and disciplined players and games played at a high level.
“[Leipzig sporting director] Ralf Rangnick played a big role, too. He had been watching me for a long time and has always maintained contact. He’s a fantastic guy.”
