Newcastle United were keen on bringing Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen to Saint James’ Park last month, but they fell few millions short of the Eredivisie side’s £22million asking price.
The Toons eventually landed Leicester City’s Islam Slimani on loan, but manager Rafa Benitez revealed Jorgensen was his top target.
It’s believed the Tyneside club will return for the signature of the 27-year-old by summer, but they might be dealt a huge blow going by reports from Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad.
Feyenoord are hoping they will be able to get more money than their last asking price from the sales of Jorgensen come summer.
Reason being that – they expect the Denmark international to put in performances that will see his stocks rise at the World Cup.
The striker has weighed in 9 goals and 3 assists thus far, and with the Premier League very much on his mind, he would hope to do exactly just that.
While it’s something Newcastle should cherish as they reignite interest in him, they might be asked to part with double the £15million they tabled for his signature last time out.
