West Ham owner Sullivan reveals big offer to sign midfielder in January

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has claimed that the club made a big offer to sign Joe Allen from Stoke City during last month’s transfer window.

The Hammers are fans of the Wales international and tried to sign him as they aim to push away from the relegation zone.

Stoke, who are also relegation candidates this season, however rejected a bid in the region of £25 million.

Allen is a key player for the Potters and it is understandable that the club rejected the advances for the midfielder, especially as they could go down this season. The Hammers meanwhile had a disappointing January transfer window.

Though they did manage to sign Jordan Hugill and Joao Mario, they missed out on many other targets including Leander Dendoncker, Ibrahim Amadou and Islam Slimani.

They had no luck however in bringing in a new central midfielder to the club and Allen could be one of the players that they target during the summer.
