Rangers legend reveals why club can still make u-turn on massive transfer decision

Rangers knocked back a £7.5million bid from Chinese Super League outfit Beijing Renhe for striking sensation Alfredo Morelos last month, with manager Graeme Murty claiming the club aren’t looking to part ways with their £1million summer signing anytime soon.

The transfer window in Asia doesn’t close until the end of February, and it’s believed that the CSL side could still return with an improved bid.

Former Rangers star Ally McCoist reckons that could finally break the club’s strong resolve on the 21-year-old Colombian, as the opportunity to cash-in and record a new outgoing transfer fee could be too tempting an offer to turn down.

The former Gers manager revealed to BT Sport: “If that offer is increased by any stretch, I would seriously think Rangers would have to consider it and probably would accept it.

“The only thing I would say, the Chinese window goes on for another month and that doesn’t give Rangers time to bring someone else in.”

Rangers are looking to challenge for the 2nd position this term, and Morelos’ goals have been crucial in helping to get them close to that mission.

Holding on to him despite the tempting offer has been widely hailed by many as a show of real intent by Rangers, but the Colombian has had his head turned, with Renhe offering him the chance to quadruple his wages.

It’s a sentiment McCoist shares as he claims: “Players are normal, they are human beings, It’s an unbelievable wage. If you’re human that would affect you.

“In terms of the business side of it, it would have been an incredible piece of business. Rangers fans would be saying that your selling the top scorer in the country and we’re trying to build things here.”
