Leeds reportedly step up pursuit of Championship striker – but need to pay £8million

According to Tuesday’s printed edition of the Daily Mirror, Leeds United have finally stepped up their interest in the pursuit of Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill by tabling an £8million bid.

However, the Championship outfit are holding out for £10million for the 25-year-old, and would prefer to do business with Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.

Leeds want a striker before the January transfer window closes in few hours’ time, and seem to be back for Hugill haven’t been on his trail since last summer.

The former non-league striker has scored 10 goals in 29 appearances, hitting double digits again after netting 13 in 47 last term.

It’s believed that Hugill is manager Thomas Christiansen’s preference as far as a quality striker goes, but it remains to be seen if Leeds are willing to meet PNE’s asking price.

Many, including former manager Neil Redfearn, reckon Hugill would be the perfect signing for Leeds’ style of play and their promotion ambitions, but it doesn’t look like they have the financial muscle power to pull off the deal.
