Newcastle man reportedly wanted back north of the border following injury blow

As per The Scottish Sun, Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is wanted by Aberdeen as a replacement for the injured Joe Lewis.

The Dons first choice was stretchered off against Rangers last weekend, and is now set for a long spell on the sidelines after revelations that he has suffered a cartilage injury.

Backup goalie Danny Rogers took charge of the 3-1 win over Kilmarnock, starting his first ever Aberdeen game since his becoming part of the senior team setup in 2011.

However, the club believe Toons’ 3rd choice Woodman is an upgrade and far better option.

The 20-year-old spent last term on loan at Kilmarnock, and could be headed back north of the border with another opportunity to play first team football beckoning.

Woodman’s only senior team appearance for the Toons since helping England’s under-21 to the youth World Cup last summer came in the F.A Cup this term.

A loan move was always on the cards for the highly promising starlet who has found it hard to displace Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot, and one to Pittodrie is expected to go through before Wednesday transfer deadline.
