Ex-Scottish international urges Liverpool to sign African star

The Daily Mirror have broadcasted the words of Pat Nevin, who has advised Liverpool to go for Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez already this January.

The Merseysiders are looking for a top-class playmaker to replace Philippe Coutinho, who left the club to join Barcelona.

Many names have been circulating over the last couple of weeks, with those of Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez resiting on the top of the list.

However, they seem far away from Anfield after their respective teams blocked them with astronomical asking prices.

Jurgen Klopp has recently stressed his satisfaction with players at his disposal, stating he might not try to sign any new player this winter.

However, Pat Nevin believes that the 26-year-old Algerian could be the best choice for the Reds, comparing his characteristics and Liverpool’s game system.

Nevin said, “Riyad Mahrez would thrive in this Liverpool team. Because he plays well in teams that have a lot of possession, and that play attacking the football.

“Mahrez just looks like a Liverpool player to me, and if I was in charge at Liverpool, I’d be banging down Leicester’s door to get him.”

The transfer window will soon close, but Klopp could still bring the reinforcement he desperately needs to stay in the Champions League race.
