West Ham manager David Moyes has said that Andy Caroll may need surgery on an injured ankle, which has hindered the forward’s chances of securing a dream move to Chelsea this month.
The 29-year old Caroll, who has been blighted by injury problems throughout his career, has been unable to train recently and has had to miss his club’s last three games.
Reports from earlier this week have suggested that Chelsea are looking to make a £20 million bid for Caroll this month, as they look to bring in cover for Alvaro Morata due to their poor form in front of goal recently.
Moyes said: “What may defuse much of the speculation is that the ankle injury Andy picked up against West Brom is sufficiently serious that he will not be able to play again this month anyway and it could even need an operation to put things right, although that has not yet been confirmed.”
“The fact that some of our strikers have not been regulars in the team recently has added grist to the rumour mill so I want to make it clear that we have really good strikers.”
