Sunderland blow as Liverpool man reportedly set to stay at Anfield

Stadium of Light

According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool teenager Ben Woodburn is likely to stay at Anfield this January despite the interest from the Championship side Sunderland.

After Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona, manager Jurgen Klopp believes that Woodburn could be helpful as Liverpool have commitments in the domestic championship and in the Champions League.

Despite the young age, Woodburn has already made his debut for Wales against the Republic of Ireland back in May 2017.

The Liverpool’ youth academy product is a versatile player, who can cover both wings and a central midfielder’s role. His main position is the attacking midfielder, and he possesses excellent technique, combined with notable passing and crossing abilities.

Woodburn is a classic playmaker, with great vision, but due to lack of experience and high competition in Liverpool midfield, he was unable to prove his value.

The 18-year-old midfielder has great potential, but he needs a regular first-team football to develop his talents, so, the potential departure in January is still on the table.
