Newcastle United have reportedly failed in trying to secure the services of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on loan this month.
Magpies manager Rafa Benitez is keen to sign an experienced keeper for his club this month with both Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot being unconvincing during the opportunities provided to them.
The 29-year-old Dubravka has plenty of experience at the highest level and also started for the Slovakia national team when they took on England in a world cup qualifier earlier on during the season.
However Sparta rejected a loan offer and Benitez will now have to look elsewhere. Newcastle meanwhile have also been linked with a move for former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina who is currently on the books of Italian club Napoli.
Benitez knows Reina well having previously managed him at Liverpool and Napoli. What could however work against the Magpies in recruiting the veteran keeper is the fact that his wages may prove to be too much for them.
