Liverpool and West Ham reportedly lose out on the race for £20million man

According to reports, Borussia Dortmund have beaten Liverpool and West Ham in the race to sign Manuel Akanji.

The 22-year-old Akanji joined Basel from Winterthur in 2015 and has since managed to establish himself as one of the top young talents in Europe.

He already has four senior caps for the Switzerland national team and should be headed to the world cup this summer.

It now appears that Borussia Dortmund are poised to sign the player in a £20 million deal.

Though Liverpool added Virgil Van Dijk to their roster this month, they were seemingly open to add another defender to their ranks.

West Ham meanwhile have lost Jose Fonte and are looking to bring in a new defender to bolster their side.

In addition to the Hammers and Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton were also rumoured to be interested in Akanji. The Premier League clubs will now however have to look elsewhere.
