West Ham, Celtic and Everton will have to pay £50million for January target

West Ham have been dealt a major transfer blow in their pursuit of Swansea centre-back Alfie Mawson, as the Welsh club have claimed they would only sell the 23-year-old in January for £50million.

Everton and Scottish giants Celtic are also keen on the English youth international as the trio goes about strengthening their defensive core going forward.

However, it appears none will have a chance to land Mawson as Swansea are aware of the dangers that come with losing a crucial member of the squad with a relegation battle ongoing.

The Swans new boss Carlos Carvalhal revealed he has been assured by the board that there won’t be any selling happening at the Liberty Stadium.

The Portuguese recently revealed: “When I signed it was very clear we would try and bring in players to improve the team.

“We will not sell the best players in January, the message is clear. I have had guarantees from the chairman, but it depends if someone comes in and gives £50m, £100m, £250m.

“Of course, then it is completely different – to me, (Philippe) Coutinho or Neymar. You can never say that it will not happen, but the fundamental idea is not to sell players and try to improve the team.”

Mawson is currently rated £25million in the market despite arriving for a 5th of that from Barnsley in August 2016.

His performances last term earned him a call up to the England under-21’s last summer, while he has been one of Swansea’s best players this term.

The aforementioned trio are in dire need of Mawson’s services for various reasons, but with £50million being quoted, it’s highly unlikely that they will landing their man this month.
