Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the knockout stage Europa League’ clash with Zenit St Petersburg, and former Celtic forward Charlie Nicholas recently urged Hooks to bring another defender to Celtic Park.
Celtic already brought RB Leipzig centre-back Marvin Compper at the beginning of January transfer window, but Nicholas believes that another signing in defense couldn’t do any harm.
During the recent interview for Daily Express, he explained, “I think he needs to bring in a pacey central defender. They have signed Marvin Compper, but I’d like to see another join him.”
Nicholas could be right, as Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic are both on their way out, while the future of Mikael Lustig still hangs in the balance.
Having that in mind, Rodgers would have to bring another defender to help Compper and Dedryck Boyata, as Celtic are expected to battle on two fronts this season.
Chancel Mbemba has the biggest odds to land at Celtic Park this January despite no concrete moves have happened yet. However, until some of the outcasts leave Celtic, there will be no new signings.
