Everton reportedly identify Baines replacement in 15-assists-a-season former EPL left-back

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Porto left-back and Mexican international Miguel Layun is looking to leave the club this month in search of regular playing time, with Everton linked with an interest.

The 29-year-old has lost his spot to Alex Telles, and is at the risk of missing out on a World Cup spot should he continue at Porto.

Despite Layun’s struggles to wrestle a starting berth off the Brazilian, he remains highly rated at the club due to his quality.

However, the ex-Watford defender could be on his way back to England, with the Toffees in search of a successor to 33-year-old Leighton Baines.

Layun remains a top fullback, and that Real Madrid once mulled over a move as they wanted him to cover for Marcelo speaks volume.

The former Granada man topped the assist charts in the Portuguese topflight in 2015–16 having helped teammates to 15 goals.

Layun can also fill in at right-back, and his ability to put in perfect crosses from both flanks could come handy in getting the goals out of Everton new man Cenk Tosun.

Porto are only willing to allow their man leave if they sign a replacement, and their loss could end up being the Toffees’ blessing given what he brings to the table.
