Retired goalkeeper Shay Given has said that Sam Johnstone would prefer to remain with Aston Villa even though he could potentially return to Manchester United during the January transfer window.
Villa first signed Johnston during the January transfer window and his loan deal was renewed during the summer.
Johnstone has continued to impress this season and his performances have reportedly drawn interest from Premier League clubs such as Crystal Palace, West Brom and West Ham.
Johnstone has established himself as an important part of the Villa first team and it is likely that they will be looking to keep him.
The 24-year old Johnstone is a product of the Manchester United youth development system but as yet to make an appearance for the first team and it also looks unlikely that he will get first team action anytime soon with David De Gea in superb form.
