As per YEP, Leeds United are keen on signing Everton loanee Matthew Pennington on a permanent basis at the end of the campaign.
The 23-year-old centre-back has impressed manager Thomas Christiansen despite having his season disrupted by a nasty injury, and while the idea of a January move was mulled over, the Whites are likely to wait till summer before approaching the Merseysiders.
The change of managers at Goodison Park has put the future of Pennington in doubt, with new boss Sam Allardyce already targeting new defensive recruitments.
The likes of Ashley Williams, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate are already ahead of him in the pecking order at Everton, and he will only become surplus to requirements once he returns at the end of the campaign.
Pennington has played just 9 league games this term but can be counted on as a top backup, and he’s expected to play an important role during the second half of the campaign.
Given his potential, he has what it takes to establish himself as a first-team regular going forward at Elland Road, and Everton’s loss could end up being Leeds’ gain if he turns out good.
