Newcastle manager supposedly dropped Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic from the first team due to his lack of speed which hinders counterattacks.

Sitting back and catching teams unaware with the speed of his forwards haven’t exactly worked out well, but the Toons appear to have found the perfect man for the job.

The Tyneside outfit are keen on acquiring the services of Red Bull Salzburg striker Dimitri Oberlin, currently on loan at Basel.

The £20million-rated 20-year-old has caught the eyes of scouts due to his performances in the Swiss Super League and Champions League.

Oberlin has scored 3 goals in 6 league starts for Basel and 4 goals in 4 Champions League starts.

He bagged a brace on his 20th birthday against Benfica, with his 1st a product of a perfect counterattack that saw him move from his goal to the opponents’ with a speed of light.

Oberlin has been scouted by Manchester United, with Real Madrid also keeping tabs, and he no doubt has great potential and talent to help guide Newcastle to safety.
