Rangers chances of completing a £1.2million deal for Brighton attacker Jamie Murphy appear to have taken a huge hit following recent comments from the Seagulls boss Chris Hughton.
Despite the fact that the 28-year-old has started just a league game this term, the former Newcastle manager recently replied when asked if Murphy would leave next month: “No. At this moment, if I am looking at the options I have in the wide areas, it’s been unfortunate for Jamie.
“Because of what we’ve had and no injuries in that area. He is still very much part of our plans.
“It only takes a lack of form, an injury or a couple of injuries and then he is very much back in the squad.”
While it appears that may have sealed the fate of the former Scotland Under-21 ace, Rangers can still land Murphy if the player takes matters into his hands.
Celtic got a similar reply from RB Leipzig in their pursuit of centre-back Marvin Compper, with boss Ralph Hasenhuttl claiming the German wasn’t going to leave until summer.
However, the 32-year-old is set to complete a deal in the coming hours as he’s due for a medical at Glasgow.
If Rangers and Murphy are keen for a switch, then the ex-Motherwell will have to approach Brighton and express his desires to leave next month.
The club can take a page from Celtic’s book in order to complete a move for a target that can help improve their fortunes
