Everton manager Sam Allardyce has stated that he is not aware of Chelsea’s desire to sign midfielder Ross Barkley during the January transfer window.
Barkley’s current contract at Goodison Park is set to expire at the end of the season and he has chosen not to sign a new deal at the club which means that the Toffees will have to sell him in January or risk losing him for free at the end of the season.
Barkley was on the verge of joining Chelsea during the summer transfer window but the deal fell through at the last minute and he remained at Everton.
Tottenham and Chelsea are two of the clubs that have been strongly linked with Barkley.
Allardyce revealed that he is not aware of interest from Chelsea and said: “I’m not aware of a link with Chelsea. If and when that materialises then that discussion will happen between all parties to make the decision and the right decision for Everton going forward.
“If Ross isn’t interested in staying – and I don’t know if he is, then it would be sensible to consider offers but there is no offer on the table to consider.
“At the moment he is recovering from injury and I am more concerned with him getting fit and deal with it from there.”
