West Ham goalkeeper Adrian has admitted that Newcastle United wanted to sign him during the summer transfer window.
Magpies manager Rafa Benitez wanted to sign an experienced goalkeeper during the summer and after deals for Pepe Reina and Will Caballero fell through, the Tyneside club were offered Adrian.
Despite Adrian being demoted to second choice keeper ahead of the new season by former manager Slaven Bilic once Joe Hart had arrived at the club on loan from Manchester City, Adrian was not allowed to leave the club.
He has since won back the number one jersey and displayed good performances against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.
“The worst moment was when I wanted to leave on loan in the summer,” Adrian said. “Real Betis, Deportivo La Coruna, Newcastle and Crystal Palace probed – and they [West Ham] didn’t open the door for me.”
Benitez remains keen on bringing in a new keeper in January especially as Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow have both been unconvincing in goal.
