24-year-old keen on earning his place back in Liverpool starting lineup

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has revealed that he is keen to challenge Simon Mignolet for the club’s first choice keeper position.

The German made only his second Premier League appearance in a year during his sides goalless draw against West Brom after Mignolet was ruled out due to a swollen ankle.

Karius is the Reds keeper for Champions League games but could now only play in FA Cup matches as the tournament only resumes in February.

The decision to rotate players made by Klopp has drawn mixed emotions and some people that it is a major reason why the Reds have dropped points during their recent games.

Karius however is keen to challenge for the first choice goalkeeping position and said: “Of course, it has been quite a while,” he said, having last started a league game in August.

“Obviously I’ve had the Champions League games but there are not that many so I was happy to get a start, it’s always nice. I wasn’t really expecting it. It is always a battle (to be first choice), it doesn’t matter in which club or which position.

“If you don’t perform well, even when you start, you might lose your spot in any position so you have to perform and the rest is up to the manager.

“I was happy I got a start and I just try to keep the standard high in training. The decision who plays is the manager’s job.”
