Liverpool will need to battle Catalan giants Barcelona to complete the signing of Lazio’s defensive stalwart Stefan De Vrij, according to reports.
De Vrij’s new contract states that the player has a minimum release clause of around €25 million, which the defender negotiated after entering into the final year of his current deal earlier this summer.
This release clause is probably on a lower side for a player of Dutchman’s caliber and there are already host of clubs looking to capitalize on this bargain release clause by signing the towering defender.
Some of the teams interested in the defender are believed to be Barcelona and Liverpool, both of whom have been touted as long-term admirers of the towering center-back.
This means that De Vrij might need to choose between the two illustrious clubs in the upcoming transfer windows and given his contractual situation, it is safe to assume that either or both of these sides will make a bid in the near future.
