Rangers risk losing valuable asset in January with Leeds reportedly keen

Rangers may find it hard to keep Cardiff City left-back Declan John beyond January, with English Championship sides Leeds and Reading keen on convincing his parent club to end his loan deal next month.

Both sides are hoping to land the Welsh defender in order to bolster their rearguard towards the second half of the campaign.

John has been impressive since arriving Ibrox on a season-long loan during the summer, scoring and assisting 2 goals apiece in 12 games.

Rangers are hoping to make the deal permanent, but they face stiff competition from the Championship duo who can afford to pay more than them for his services.

Leeds currently have Gaetano Berardi as their first choice left-back, but the Swiss haven’t done enough going forward, neither assisting nor scoring in 13 league games thus far.

The Elland Road outfit are looking to finish in the playoffs zone, and manager Thomas Christiansen reckons John’s quality can come handy in aiding the cause.

Meanwhile, Rangers see the 22-year-old as a perfect successor to skipper Lee Wallace who has spent the majority of the campaign on the injured.

Keeping hold of John until at least next summer could help the Glasgow outfit’s mission of finishing firmly behind Celtic, but the Championship duo could successfully lure him back to England.
