Paul Merson has predicted that the game between Newcastle and Everton on Wednesday night will be a draw.
He said: “Newcastle are in a bad way, losing six out of the last seven. This will be a draw, and I expect Everton to sit back a bit.
“Newcastle really have to go for it, but they will leave themselves open at the back like they did against Leicester, but Everton are nowhere near as good on the counter as Leicester. I cannot separate these two.”
After making a promising start to the season, the Magpies have been poor recently and have lost six out of their last several League games.
They will be aware that they will need to start collecting points soon or else relegation could be a serious possibility for the troubled club.
Meanwhile after their poor early season results, Everton look to be a rejuvenated side and are unbeaten in their last three League games.
Everton played a defensive brand of football during their 1-1 weekend draw with Liverpool and Merson expects them to once again adopt this approach against the Magpies.
