Newcastle and Tottenham have been handed huge boost in their pursuit of Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, with the former Southampton man now ready to leave Old Trafford.
As per reports, the 22-year-old has told the Red Devils he will draw curtain on his 3-season stay next month, provided he’s given a £5million payoff.
Shaw wants the severance package in order to complement for a potential drop in wages at his next club, as none of his suitors will be willing to pay him £130,000 per week.
The Magpies went for the defender during the summer, but United’s £20million asking price knocked them back.
Spurs were also linked with Shaw, with boss Mauricio Pochettino reportedly keen on a reunion.
The Red Devils are still not likely to be keen on dropping their price having landed him for £30million, and are also only willing to pay him £2million as severance package, hence a loan deal till May could be on the cards.
Newcastle can really do with Shaw’s quality to help them retain their Premier League status at the end of the campaign, and going by his displays during last week’s Champions League game, he won’t have competition at Saint James’ Park.
Same can’t be said of his chances at Wembley, though, with the duo of Danny Rose and Ben Davies 2 of the best left-backs in the league right now.
Regular playing time and a reunion with his beloved former boss are 2 factors Shaw will have to carefully consider next month as he takes a crucial step in what has been a stagnant career.
