According to a report published by The Sun, West Ham are considering rivalling Everton in the race to sign Federico Martinez who plays for Liverpool FC in Uruguay.
Martinez has been impressive and looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
He has so far scored three times and provided six assists for his side, who are languishing in mid-table this season.
A number of teams have taken notice of the performances of the 21-year-old and are planning to recruit him.
The report added that West Ham are planning a possible £5 million bid during the January transfer window.
The report claimed that West Ham are scouting the youngster while Swansea City, and Everton are interested in following through with a deal for Martinez who has earned comparisons to Angel Di Maria.
Though Martinez is a star in the making, West Ham should ideally look to recruit established players in January considering their current position.
