Legend Gerrard explains why Henderson will be hurt by this Klopp decision

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard believes that captain Jordan Henderson would have been disappointed after being dropped in the midweek Champions League game against Spartak Moscow.

Gerrard has sympathized with current captain Henderson after the England international was surprisingly dropped by manager Jurgen Klopp in an important Champions League clash against Spartak Moscow on Wednesday.

Klopp decided to drop Henderson in the crucial fixture against Moscow to give rest to the midfielder as the Englishman had already featured in almost 20 games for the Reds so far this season.

Considering how congested the fixtures are in the December period, it was an understandable move from Klopp’s point of view to give Henderson a rest to recover from any sort of fatigue the player might be feeling.

Although the snub was reasonable, Gerrard sympathized with Henderson by saying that it was probably very disappointing for the midfielder at getting dropped from the first team for such an important game.

Gerrard told BT Sports: “Yeah, I’m sure it will (hurt him). As a player you want to play on these big nights, these big occasions.

“But I think all of the Liverpool players have been buying into the Jurgen Klopp way of late. That is to make two or three changes every game and rotate and freshen the team up.

“I didn’t like that as a player, I wanted to play every game, especially as captain, you want to be the first name on the team-sheet. So I’m sure Jordan is hurting a little bit but I’m sure he will understand if they get the right result.”
